103500: Journaling and Commitment Control for World

Mon. April 13| 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM | Room Reef C

Session ID: 103500

Room: Reef C

Abstract: Safekeeping of data is of paramount importance to any IT shop. World customers could enhance their data integrity through Journaling and Commitment Control. Journaling is a method of taking images of database updates to provide an audit trail or enhance disaster recovery beyond a typical nightly backup. Commitment control is based on journaling and provides a data recovery technique whereby database updates are ‘committed’ upon success of a ‘transaction’ such as a sales order. It is a powerful tool to ensure data integrity, since failed transactions are automatically backed out as if they never happened. E1 already uses journaling and commitment control out of the box. World, out of the box, uses neither. Most World shops are missing out on the tremendous benefits of these features in the AS400 database. This session will present an overview of journaling and commitment control, the benefits, and information on implementing each in a typical green-screen shop.
